All my friends’ Facebook statuses say neVer forgeT, as if anyone ever could.

It’s been five years, and thinking about this day still makes my stomach feel heavy.

I remember almost every minute of April 16, 2007 and the days following. I was in my car, driving to campus when I heard Nikki Giovanni make her speech on the radio. These words became the rally cry for Hokies everywhere.

I’m not sure what causes the lump in my throat to rise, her voice declaring, “We ARE Virginia Tech,” or the students agreeing with a chorus of, “Let’s Go Hokies.”
