Happy 4th of July weekend from the Kriegers! Yesterday I tried to explain why we celebrate Independence Day to the kids and was baffled by the number of concepts I had to introduce. War, taxes, sovereignty, the existence of our country and also other countries. Two minutes into it I gave up because my kids already understand hotdogs and hamburgers so we’ll leave it at that until next year.

David / Several people have asked me about the maintenance required for a pool and here’s the short answer: the hardest part is finding a good pool boy. After that, the only thing you really have to worry about is mastering the perfect belly flop.
(The actual, non-sarcastic answer is that Tom’s doing 100% of the work and my only contribution is complaining when the water’s too cold.)
Mary Virginia / Is lotion one of the five love languages? Because if so, it’s Mary Virginia’s. Anytime I go into the master bathroom Mary Virginia follows me and says, “Mommy, do you want to use some lotion? Would that be special? Juuuuuust a little bit…”
Thomas / Not quite walking, but almost always trying.
